4 June 2009 No Comment

miguel_cotto_vs_joshua_clottey_welterweightMiguel Cotto will be fighting Joshua Clottey for the IBF and WBO welterweight title unification bout. For Miguel Cotto this will a warm up fight for a potential showdown with pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao assuming of course that Cotto wins it convincingly.

STATS AND FACTS:

Miguel Cotto : 33 wins 27 knockouts 1 loss (ko loss)

Joshua Clottey : 35 wins 20 knockouts 2 losses

Cotto knocked out Zab Judah in the 11th ; Clottey had a technical decision against Judah in the 9th

Cotto lost to Antonio Margarito via knockout (most probably just due to the illegally padded gloves Margarito used); Clottey lost to Margarito via unanimous decision

PERSONAL ANALYSIS:

Clottey fights like Sugar Shane Mosley loves to run and hit but really doesn’t have the power of a Mosley that disturbed Cotto in their match. Clottey will likely fight extra cautiously against Cotto making this fight a potentially long one.

I do think though that Miguel Cotto will try to barrel his way in with his power punches and try to slow Clottey down with body punches and looking to land a lucky knockdown punch to the head.

If this fight doesnt end early i think that Cotto will realize that he can handle Clottey’s power in the middle rounds and will try to go for it and look for a knockout to impress everybody and will seal his multimillion dollar fight with Pinoy pound for pound king Manny ” Pacman” Pacquiao.

THE PREDICTION:

Miguel Cotto Will Win (30% chance of KO ; 60% of UD ; 10% of Draw)

ACTUAL RESULT:

Cotto wins by Decision
